Chooks and roosters are a recurring theme, more so in my photographs than in my paintings – but they do appear here and there on a semi-regular basis. This morning I have been playing with some photos sent to me by best friend, photographer Sandra Robinson, as well as some old photos of roosters I took a few years ago now. I’m playing with combining images and text, in preparation for 20 mixed media works I need to completed in the next few weeks. The works will include photos, collage, text, stenciling, and wet & dry media. I’m looking forward to getting started on them.

10_365 : scouring the 2nd hand shops

Because I have entered the International Collage Exchange I am making lots of collage as ‘practice pieces’. We have a lovely second hand shop here in Patea called Memories 4 U. I purchased some lovely buttons and ribbon the other day. They gave me my goodies in a sweet wee bag handmade out of old wallpaper.Irresistable!! So I made this colllage using the buttons, ribbon and the wallpaper 🙂

Making the most of the long weekend…
It’s been a long weekend here in New Zealand – 3 days of bliss (apart from the storms and flooding!). I spent a lot of my time in my art room – painting and generally having fun.Recently I took some photos of the full moon, showing above the hills, across the river from where I live.
For some of them I crouched down low so the moon is seen behind the grass.
Even though some of the photos are a little blurry, because the camera couldn’t decide how to focus, the effect is quite cool.
I have been translating the photos into various media, including watercolour, acrylic, Indian ink, pastels and water soluble crayons and pencils.
I’ve got more pieces on the go, but some of the paint is taking a while to dry…
