In the last week an energy company has announced plans to build a 45 turbine wind farm along the coastline near my home town. They’ll be 150m high and visible for 25km. In NZ terms that’s a huge area – encompassing two towns and a number of smaller villages.
It’s fine in theory – but – they are only viable for 25 years, they are noisy, they have a huge impact on the visible landscape. I’m not sure I think this is the best option for extra power generation.
This painting is a direct result of that worry; in the centre, under the hills, is the word WIND. 8×12″ in acrylics on primed canvas paper.
