Last year a library friend and I started an art swap – each month we sent off a background for the other person to paint something floral on. We got a bit behind for various reasons, and have been catching-up. Over the long weekend I’ve used 5 backgrounds she sent me. It’s such a fun way to work, and really pushes me to try different looks.

Practising with my Copics
I’ve got enough Copics now that I can start to blend the colours more. It looks so easy when you watch experts like Kelly Latevola on YouTube; then you try it yourself and realise just how much practise they’ve had! Still, all good fun and the cards won’t go astray.
The backgrounds are all blended Distress Ink with water drips, and I masked some of the stamping using Post-It notes so a couple of images sit in behind.

LD17 week 6
This week’s challenge was to use multiple layers; there was also a great quote but I haven’t used it because I want my pages to document our lives. This is our grandson Rory, who is learning to drag race just like his Dad, Adam (seen filling the tank). I used gesso, Tim Holtz Distress paint, an old painting, gelli prints and fabric trim.

CMP17 week 5
Love this week’s quote. As always, working on more complex backgrounds. Tim Holtz Distress Paints, Pitt Big Brush pens, gesso, clear stamps, book page.

CJS17 with Nathalie Kalbach
Today was the last day of CJS17, so we ended where we started, with organiser Nathalie Kalbach. Nat showed us how one of her journal pages was inspired by Cy Twombly. I’m a Cy fan, so jumped straight in. I used gesso, Distress Paints, pencils, archival ink, Pitt Big Brush pen and stamps.
